10th Amendment is dying....

"The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." -- 10th Amendment, U.S. Constitution
Sounds great, doesn't it? Too bad the states are going to be controlled more than ever by the Federal government. Did you hear? Federal Aid now funds the majority of state spending! That means the Feds OWN our states. They can dictate state policies with the threat of withholding money if they are not listened to. They will bribe local officials with federal funds to get them to do things they would prefer NOT to do.
And it gets worse. Most states have laws requiring a balanced budget. Federal funds allow states to bypass this law, because the federal government is doing the borrowing for them.
And of course, this means government will be more centralized than ever. So now when the government screws things up, it will effect more people than ever. And you know they will. They nearly always do.
This is not going to change by electing new politicians. The move toward more centralized government has moved forward for decades regardless of whether you elect Democrats or Republicans. Both parties are responsible in equal measure.
If we don't start pressuring them on a regular basis and tell them we don't like this, then it is not going to change. Contact your representatives today, and tell them you specifically object to the fact that federal aid now funds the majority of state government spending. Tell them this violates the 10th Amendment. And be sure to remind them that they are supposed to represent YOU, not special interest groups or their political party.
