Enumerated Powers Act lives!
May 6th 2009 01:30
Representative John Shadegg (R-AZ) has reintroduced the Enumerated Powers Act (EPA). This bill will require congress to cite the specific constitutional authority for every law they pass. This will make it hard on them to pass bills, because the Constitution only authorizes 20 federal functions. See, the founding fathers wanted to control the government and keep it small and unobtrusive. That's why they passed the 10 Amendment which specifically limits the congress to only those 20 functions. And things like Education, Housing, Communications and many others are NOT among those functions! This will just show that most of what congress does violates the constitution. If the EPA passed, it would force congress to either confess they have no legal basis for most of what they do, or embarrass themselves by making up horrendous constitutional interpretations to justify their illegal actions. EIther way, we will have a wonderful new weapon to use against them to pressure them into abiding by the constitutional limits as set forth by the founding fathers. So be sure to contact your representatives and ask them to co-sponsor and support the EPA!
